| Anhingas are very common throughout South Florida. They are often seen swimming with only their long neck above water (hence the nickname "the snake bird"). Their breeding period is during the winter, and the eye ring turns a deep aqua during this period. Females are distinguished from males by their light brown neck. | ![]() |
